Metallica is one of the most popular and acclaimed bands of the last 30 years. Throughout the 80s they gained a large cult following with their aggressive style. With 1991’s “Metallica”, they slowed things down a little bit and sold about a kajillion records. Despite making some choices that put off old-school fans in recent years, Metallica remains incredibly popular.
The Decemberists have carved a place for themselves in the last decade with their folk-tinged indie rock. Colin Meloy’s literary, history-inspired songs have made them critical favorites. They are not only popular with critics, though, as each of their records has been more popular than the last, with this year’s “The King is Dead” debuting at #1 on the Billboard chart.
