53 The Replacements vs. 76 The Pretenders

It’s been said that on a given night, The Replacements could be either the greatest band in the world or the worst. Whatever their collective blood alcohol level, there’s no denying that The Replacements were a great and influential band. Following their breakup, singer Paul Westerberg has gone on to be a successful singer-songwriter.

Akron, Ohio,-native Chrissie Hynde formed The Pretenders in London in 1978. They released two acclaimed albums before drug-related deaths took two members. Since then, Hynde has formed different versions of the band and pressed ahead while remaining an influential figure for women in music.

This was a really tough one. I wish both these bands could have made it out of the first round… oh well, there’s always next year, right?

There are some tough ones, no doubt about it. At the rate I’m going, this could stretch into next year. Although I think I’ll be able to pick up the pace soon.
