12 The Beach Boys vs. 117 Yo La Tengo

The Beach Boys earned fame in the early 1960s writing songs about cars, girls, surfing and other teenage fascinations. In the mid 60s, Brian Wilson moved the band into more personal and experimental territory, creating the masterwork “Pet Sounds”.

Yo La Tengo have been making critically acclaimed music for over 25 years now. Husband and wife Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley formed the band in 1984, and have built up their popularity based on their feedback-driven, emotionally charged songs.

Getting close

This is just a quick update to let everyone know where the┬áRock and/or Roll Battle of the Bands All-Star Tournament stands, since I haven’t rapped at ya in a while (trademark Jim Anchower).

The finishing touches are being placed on the tournament and the full bracket should be revealed in time for Selection Sunday. What a coincidence, right? Next week the voting will open for the first eight matchups. From there, we progress through the tournament and have fun, fun, fun ’til Daddy takes the T-Bird away.

Speaking of which, here’s a clip of the 12-seed, The Beach Boys.
